Brother Industries UK Ltd. based in Wrexham, North Wales and is one of the award-winning manufacturing facilities in Europe.

We currently have vacancies in our automation department, which is at the forefront of Brother’s drive to automate both new and remanufacturing processes worldwide, working on projects from initial design, build and implementation, both in the UK and overseas facilities. Our automation team, create bespoke automated equipment / production lines, working with major suppliers and utilising processes such as 3D CAD industrial robots, Cobots along with 3D printings while incorporating smart factory, industry 4.0 technologies.


About the role - Automation Mechanical Design Engineer

As an automation mechanical design engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing and improving our production lines and equipment of the future for use in the UK and other Brother production facilities worldwide. You will be involved at every stage from design, development, buiks commissioning and improvement.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Develop detailed designs using CAD software.
  • Conduct research and analysis to ensure design feasibility and optimization.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of designs, modifications, and project progress.
  • Prepare project costings including bill of materials.
  • Perform testing and validation to ensure design performance and reliability.
  • Provide support for modifications / design changes found at build / commissioning stages of the project.
  • Support / troubleshoot existing equipment both in our facility and other group companies.

About you

Knowledge, Technical Skills, and Experience

  • Education to a degree level or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a similar subject.
  • Experience in equipment design/development.
  • Strong Knowledge of using 3D CAD.
  • Knowledge of Industrial automation and manufacturing processes.

Soft skills

  • Have an interest in system / mechanical assembly design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

    Starting salary £34,000 ~ £36,000

    We currently have vacancies in our recycling technology center (RTC) department, which is at the forefront of Brother’s recycling processes worldwide, working on sustainability and remanufacturing projects from 2012, both in the UK and overseas facilities.


    About the role - RTC Apprentice Engineer

    As an apprentice RTC engineer, you will work closely with other team members, in remanufactured related projects.

    This role would suit someone with the willingness to learn and develop their skills of working to develop and evaluate manufacturing processes for Brother parts. You will get involved with a wide variety of work including (but not limited to):

    • Project Support: coordination of each stage of a new product introduction cycle from R&D to mass production. Some responsibilities include:
      • Experimental design and sample preparation for the support of R&D investigations, including tests such as life, yield and environmental testing, etc.
      • Gathering and analysing data attained from experiments and problem solving using Six Sigma techniques.
      • Creation of diverse documentation such as work instructions, flowcharts and process control charts for new model introductions.
    • Confirming the performance and implementing changes in the design of current products.
    • Involvement in continuous improvement activities around the factories. Identifying/improving recycling techniques and sharing ideas with automation and production departments.
    • Ensuring the adherence to rules and regulations for the remanufacture and recycling of various products.
    • Communicating and working within a multicultural environment on research and development, sharing ideas and learning from their ways of working.

    About you

    We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a prominent level of skill in mechanical engineering. This will include:

    • You will have an interst in pursuing a level 3 NVQ diploma in mechanical manufacturing engineering or similar qualification.
    • You can demonstrate a prominent level of skill in proactive problem solving and are a dedicated and tenacious with an ability to quickly learn new concepts and take ownership of tasks.
    • Willingness to travel overseas on business.
    • It would be desirable to have a knowledge of Japanese/Czech/Slovakian language and culture would be an advantage.

    About the role - Automation Mechtronic Engineer

    As an automation mechtronic engineer, you will be involved in designing, developing and implementing innovative mechatronic systems / solutions. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical, electronic and computer engineering principles.

    What you will be responsible for:

    • Design and Development: Design and develop mechatronic systems and components, including robotics, automation systems, and smart devices.
    • Prototyping and Testing: Create prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to ensure functionality, reliability, and performance standards are met.
    • System Integration: Integrate mechanical, electronic, and software components into cohesive systems.
    • Problem Solving: Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in existing systems and develop effective solutions.
    • Project Management: Lead or contribute to project planning, scheduling, and execution, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers.
    • Documentation: Prepare detailed documentation, including technical reports, design specifications, and user manuals.

    About you

    Knowledge, Technical Skills, and Experience

    • An engineering background with a degree or higher in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field..
    • Experience in mechatronic system design and development..
    • Experience with programming languages such as C/C#, Python..
    • Familiarity with control systems, sensors, actuators, and robotics..
    • Knowledge of Industrial automation and manufacturing processes..
